Nothing is black and White Except for Having to Pay Taxes

If you are already dreading the task of having to fill out all of your 2011 tax forms, you are probably not alone. For some people, tax time is a period of time to look back over the previous year and reflect on the expenditures of the government. One thing that weighs on many peoples’ minds is the fact that a lot of their tax money was used to support projects that they may not agree with. This can be difficult to take when billions of dollars have been spent, while many other worthwhile projects have suffered because of it. Things like art, music, drama and other arts and humanities courses and programs that have had to be cut from public education systems and schools because the government couldn’t afford to fund them anymore.

This is a real shame. But that is the thing about taxes: people will agree with some of the expenditures, and some of it they won’t. Regardless of whether or not every citizen agrees with what their tax dollars fund, everyone has to contribute their share to the communal goods and services the government provides, because everyone does benefit from some or most of them. Even if a person does not support a war or his or her tax dollars being used to fund it, that person still needs to contribute to the existence of a military force for their country. Otherwise the country could be vulnerable to attack, which could end up being even worse for the taxpayer than having his or her money used in a way he does not agree with.

It is always a bit of a grey area and a sore and sticky subject, but the truth is always somewhere in between the two extremes. All theory and politics aside, the basic fact is that everyone needs to pay taxes. That much is certain.

Simple Ideas to Give Your Bedroom Extra Appeal

Window treatments on bedroom windows can add variety, color and emphasis to a room.  Inexpensively, you can change the whole look of the room by using these simple ideas to give your bedroom extra appeal by using window treatments.

  • Bold Prints Make a Statement: Using a bold print for curtains, shades or window valence can make a plain room pop.  If your room has mostly neutral colors, consider choosing a large flower or geometric for window treatments to create a strong decorating statement.  You can add a couple of matching pillows to pull the room together.
  • Organic Window Shades Bring Nature Inside: Use roll-up bamboo or matchstick blinds to give your bedroom a natural look.   Or opt for natural woven shades in earthy tones. Many new Hot glue a strip of shell or natural stone bead lace to the bottom of the blind for an added effect.
  • Rich Fabrics Create a Romantic Look: Use bold, rich fabrics like silks, damasks, velvet, fur, leather and suede for a luxury look in your bedroom. All of these fabrics can be found in deep colors to complement your bedroom furniture. Combine long dense fabric curtains with lavish trimming and hardware for an easy transformation of your bedroom into a romantic retreat.
  • Add Dramatic Color to Set a Mood: You don’t have to re-paint to change the look of your bedroom.  Instead, add a strong color to your windows.  Your bedroom will be transformed and updated by using teal, aquamarine, soft green or tangerine window blinds or curtains.
  • Add Larger Window Coverings for a Transformed Space: Want a bigger bedroom? Change your window treatments to make it seem like you have a larger space.   Larger and longer window coverings  expose the whole window and let light into the room.  Moreover, they make the whole room seem more spacious.
  • Use Layered Drapes for Effect: If you already have blinds which are perfectly functional, you can add appeal to your windows by adding a sheer curtain or a valence on top.  Layers on your windows add color, texture and also help on energy efficiency.  Interesting, twisted vine or wrought iron hardware can extra appeal too.

With these simple ideas you can make your any room look elegant and inviting. Remember, nothing has to be permanent! You should play around with a few ideas and find out what feels best for each room!

Real Estate 2011 – Is Now The Time To Buy?

Many potential home buyers are quietly sitting out of the market.  For them, they still think home prices will continue to fall and that interest rates will also drop again.  These people couldn’t be more wrong.  Now is a great time to buy.

Interest rates are at record lows even though there has been a recent slight increase in rates.  Home prices have never been lower and in some markets, prices are starting to inch up.  So, if you don’t act now, you could be one of those people that will say, “I wish I would have…”.

Along with favorable rates and prices, many states are requiring continued education for realtors and mortgage brokers.  For example, mortgage broker continuing education updates brokers to the newest laws and regulations and ensures buyers are dealing with firms that have passed minimum standards.

Don’t wait any longer for that ‘sweet spot’ because it’s already here.  Inventory in foreclosure homes is down significantly in many markets and neighborhood by neighborhood many home prices are rising.  In fact, Realtors in some areas are receiving multiple offers on just listed homes.

2011 is truly a good time to buy.

5 Vitamins You’ve Likely Never Heard of But May Want to Consider

Getting enough vitamins is an essential part of our well-being. Whether we take supplements or get the majority of our vitamin requirements through the food we eat, being healthy involves getting enough of certain vitamins. We all know about the basic vitamins: vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, iron, magnesium, calcium, etc. But there are some lesser known vitamins that can go a long way to helping you get and stay healthy.

Here are five vitamins that you may not know much about but should consider nonetheless.

Tocotrienols

This group of vitamins is actually a type of vitamin E. Vitamin E is essential for a healthy heart and tocotrienols are your go-to vitamins. They reduce cholesterol oxidation, support normal blood pressure levels and will also help you to maintain healthy levels of triglyceride. Synthetic vitamin E doesn’t have any of the tocotrienols but most health food stores or natural grocery stores should carry it.

Natural Forms: You can also find it in palm, annatto and rice bran oil.

Choline

This unofficial B vitamin has all kinds of benefits for your health. It protects the liver from accumulating fat and can also reverse damage that has already been done to your liver. It is also believed to help lower cholesterol, prevent memory loss caused by ageing and protect the body against some forms of cancer. Researchers are still studying the health benefits of choline and believe the understanding of this vitamin will only open up more health benefits.

Natural Forms: You can find choline in whole eggs, almonds, 80% ground beef, cauliflower and navy beans.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is essential for good bone and heart health. This little known vitamin is needed for the proper formation and full activation of Gla proteins. This allows for calcium to bond to your bones, so it increases the health and strength of your bones. Another added bonus is that since it helps bond calcium to your bones, it keeps it out of your arteries. And less build up in your arteries is always a good thing.

Natural Forms: Dark, leafy greens like kale, spinach and greens are chock full of vitamin K.

Selenium

When choosing a good multivitamin, make sure that it includes selenium. Selenium is a known cancer fighter and can also help you combat against cardiovascular disease, inflammatory diseases and neurological diseases. Not only does selenium help fight cancer, but it lowers the mortality rate in those who already suffer from it. It also promotes normal liver function, can be used to help fight off viral infections and may help to slow down the progression of AIDS/HIV.

Natural Forms: Selenium is found in poultry, seafood, Brazil nuts and meats.

Bioflavonoids

Once known as vitamin P, bioflavonoids are a great vitamin for your overall health. They will also decrease your chances of developing most cancers. Flavonoids also help with bruising and joint health. If you are getting the recommended 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day, then you are likely getting your fair share of bioflavonoids. Some medicinal plants such as hawthorn and ginkgo biloba are a good source of bioflavonoids.

Natural Forms: You can find bioflavonoids in most colourful fruit and vegetables. In particular you can find them in the pulp and rind of citrus fruit, green teas, onions, red wine and apples along with all berries.

Making sure that you are getting the right amount of nutrients and vitamins daily can be a bit of a challenge. While you may be getting enough of the better known vitamins, like vitamins A and E, make sure that you are also getting the proper amount of the lesser known vitamins listed above.

What vitamin have you recently found that you never knew existed? Share with us, in the comments below.

Full Time Studies Balanced With Full Time Work

Putting oneself through school has always been an admirable goal. Whether one is fortunate enough to have plenty of financial resources or a reliance on financial aid, the time, focus and skills to successfully complete a course load can be all inclusive for most people attempting such feats.

Today more adults are seeking to finish a college education, or work towards one of the many advanced degree programs than at any previous point in history. Most people pursuing higher education are regular folks who have lives and financial responsibilities.

Thus the balancing act arrives on stage when one considers how to best get ahead in the world in the quickest time frame possible. The prospect of attending a college or university full time makes sense, however, on the other side of the scale are the liabilities which need to be maintained and paid for.

The following list of tips will ideally provide one the basis for making better choices when it comes to attempting this circus act. While hopefully not one of the death defying type, school and work can, at times, get to the point where they might feel like an all or nothing proposition. Instead of getting overwhelmed and eventually burned out, why not take a few extra moments to understand how to become best prepared to balance regular life with a few years of one in the academic learning world.

Work and School: A Balancing Act

  • Make Sure: Understanding exactly why the project of going to school at this point in life will provide a number of benefits when it comes to ongoing motivation. Whimsical undertaking of attending college courses full time while holding down a 40+ hour a week job or career is very hard, especially if one continually questions the reasons behind having made the decision.
  • Make Cents: Or more accurately, save money. Where possible reduce or eliminate expenses which are luxury items. The necessities are what is important to survival. The less money one requires to exist, the fewer hours will be needed to trade for dollars in order to pay for living requirements. With more hours freed up from having to work, the ability to take classes, study and learn increase.
  • Make a Plan: Perhaps the easiest of these tips on how to balance school and work, however many people undertaking such life objectives fail to plan much further than their first class or semester. Understanding how finances will be affected, the demands of learning on ones time, family and friends interaction, etc. can make the difference in successfully understanding all one is taught and simply going through the motions. Planning for the changes in income, less time for personal aspects of life, and more should give the working student a better feel for what to expect in their upcoming life.
  • Make a Choice: Is the curriculum one is interested in located nearby? Or will this life changing choice require a geographical relocation? Perhaps the prospect of taking some or all of ones course load online might be considered. The breadth and depth of college course available via the Internet today rivals even the biggest and best traditional university offerings.
  • Make Haste: Once the plans are made, and a sound financial plan is in place, realize the sooner one starts and proceeds towards their new educational goals, the faster they are going to finish and be able to start using their new knowledge and skills earning increased salaries out in the real world.

Anyone deciding to finish an education or just getting advanced degree while participating in full time work should be commended. Commendations, however, won’t do the work so be sure to make sound, rational decisions and forge ahead towards the life one desires.
