How to Become a Consultant
By soDeep in Careers | 0 comments

A consultant is someone who helps others decide what to do in their businesses. Here’s how to become a consultant:
- Identify your areas of expertise. For the purposes of this example, let’s say that you’ve been working in the business of corporate debt negotiation.
- Figure out how that translates into consulting. In this case, you would want to provide debt consulting services to businesses.
- Determine if anything needs to be different from your past experience. For example, you may want to work with small businesses instead of large corporations.
- Create a business plan. You can find sample business plans for consultants in your local library or bookstore as well as through online resources. This will help you map out your consulting business.
- Launch your business. You should start slowly, gaining one client at a time. This will make it easier for you to learn how to transfer your skills in an industry to skills teaching others about that industry.
- Network and market. Once you get going with your consulting business, you can do the things that you need to do in order to grow that business.
Of course, there are more steps to the process than these but that’s basically how you go from being a worker to being a consultant.
