How I Met My Husband

I met my husband back in 2005, while I was working for a technical writing firm.  It was literally the worst job I’ve ever had, and I had been trying to find another for months.  Good thing I hadn’t succeeded yet — this rerlationship was literally the best thing that came out of my stint as a technical writer!

Basically, the firm I worked for was contracted out to a much larger company, the company my husband worked for.  I met my husband while we were working on a document together.  We spent a lot of time talking at the office, and then one day we went out to lunch together.

There were complications, though.  I was technically seeing someone, and when I looked his phone number up I discovered it was registered to a woman with his last name.  I asked him about it, and it turned out he was in the process of getting a divorce, but that they had been separated for a while.

The reason the divorce was taking so long was because they were doing it themselves, and though she had been the one to initiate the separation, she was stalling a bit on getting the divorce paperwork done.  They wanted to save money on a divorce attorney in Scottsdale, and instead do what’s known as divorce mediation in Arizona.  But after my husband and I got together, he put some pressure on her to speed up the process, and the divorce was completed and official a couple of months later.

I also broke up with the guy I was seeing in order to get together with my husband.  In doing so, we broke all the rules.  Supposedly, a married man who says he’s leaving his wife never does, and a woman who breaks up with one guy for another is sure to do the same for the new guy as soon as someone else comes along.  Yet none of those dire predictions proved true, and here we are — married, and still as happy together as ever!
