A friend of mine has been going to community college for the last two years working towards a degree in IT with a webmaster specialization.  He has been telling me recently that he may not focus on building websites as a career.  Apparently, there is a lot of money to be made in the SEO field and he is thinking of starting his own search engine optimization company.

From what he told me, there are many businesses out there that have no clue how to get their sites to the top of search engines.  As a result, their websites are just sitting on the web and generate little traffic.  With SEO optimization, these sites can move up the rankings and experience increased traffic. 

My friend plans to start offering a SEO package to the businesses in our town and the surrounding areas.  There is a great chance that he will be able to drum up a lot of business as this area is not exactly a hub of technology.  I personally can think about a dozen companies that have websites that definitely could use an upgrade.  In the short term, I think my friend will definitely have plenty of work.
