5 Types of Direct Mail Marketing

mailbox

One of the best ways to market your products or services to potential customers is to use a direct mail service. This is a service which sends your advertising material to all of the names on one or more direct mailing lists. These people see your ads and may then choose to purchase what you have for sale.

There are five major types of direct mail marketing that you may use:

  1. Basic ads. These are paper ads or postcard ads that give brief information about what you have for sale.
  2. Your catalog. You may wish to send your entire catalog to potential customers. The benefit is that they may be more inspired to order something if they see an item that they specifically like. The drawback is that this type of mailing is more expensive than mailing a basic ad.
  3. Discount offers. You can send a postcard deal offering a percentage off of a first-time purchase. This is a good way to get new customers with direct mail.
  4. Information on CD. Some people would be more likely to learn about your business from a computer CD than from a paper mailer. You may want to send one out.
  5. Samples. If you have small samples of items then you can mail these to potential customers to interest them in your product.

All of these types of marketing materials are designed to get the attention of people who will then support your business by purchasing your products or services.

I find discount offers and samples more effective because it gives me an incentive to try the product. I especially like discount offers because it gives me a chance to save while buying something I need.

I like catalogs. I love leafing through them to see if there’s anything I wanted to buy. Sometimes, I’m not lucky. But sometimes, they have exactly what I needed at the right price.

I love samples! Sometimes I just order one thing because they’ve got samples. I’m a sucker for samples!

    Great post!

I’ve tried all of these and find that discount offers and samples work the most. I think it’s mostly because there’s already a guarantee that people like the product. And the reason they come back is because they liked the product and are now willing to pay full price for it.

I wanted to get people to notice me but could only afford to do basic ads at first. So I decided to get creative and worked on making my ads pop. It seemed to work because business increased after I started sending out those ads.
