Raising a teenager today is made difficult by the technology gap that exists between parent and child. Let’s face it, teens today are smarter than us and understand how to use technology to their advantage. Teens today have cell phones and can use them to check in. This has its pros and cons. Teens can check in with their parents from any location they choose versus the old days when you had to be at a house in order to use the phone. Teens today have texting capabilities and email ability which means they can contact their parents and each other. This means that teens are in constant communication with each other thus isolating themselves from the family.

Parents today have home security systems which ding when doors open. This alerts the parents as to the time their teen gets home from their evenings out. This is a good tool for parents. We know exactly what time the door opens thus supporting the curfew time. Some tools help the teens and others help the parents; it is hard raising a teenager in the 21^st century.
