Engaged

I plan to propose to my girlfriend by the end of the month while we are by the state capitol in Austin.  We have been dating for a little over two years and she is perfect for me.  We get along on most topics and I actually like her family including my future in-laws.  Money is tight and my hours at work have been reduced in effort for the company to avoid laying off employees.  I am really concerned about the expense of a good quality diamond ring.

I recently saw an advertisement offering people the opportunity to earn cash for gold and it dawned on me that if people sell gold for cash then people like me can buy it.  A lot of folks must sell their wedding band if their marriage doesn’t work out.

I am now struggling with the question of how my girlfriend may feel if I buy her an engagement ring at a pawn shop in Houston.  I have decided that a marriage can’t start with secrets so I am going to ring shop with her.  First I am going to take her to the mall and visit stores.  We will have a particular budget in mind.  After we see how far we can stretch a dollar in a jewelry store (a jewelry store with the expense of a mall address) we will then visit the pawn shops and compare how much more ring we can buy.  I’ll leave the decision with her.
