Billy Joel and Oyster Bay

He’s easily one of the most prominent performers in the world, with over 100 million in record sales, and dozens and dozens of awards. If there is an award for music that’s available to someone alive, chances are that Billy Joel has it. He’s made a mark on the world for sure, but he’s certainly made an impression in this part of the world. With its luxurious settings, splendid way of life, and excellent hotels, Oyster Bay is a dream come true, and it certainly was for him.

His famous house along Oyster Bay Harbor is a treasure, but it seems to have been a little problematic trying to determine how much a treasure is gonna cost. He bought it for 12 million dollars, and had been asking for three times the price less than a decade later. It’s indeed as lovely as a house in this part of the world can get, with 8 fireplaces, a bowling alley, and plenty of room for grand pianos everywhere.

It’s an interesting illustration of life here, because it demonstrates that the local geography has a way of haunting the imaginations of its famous children. For Billy Joel, who grew up in the Bronx, the East Coast has remained as inspiring and mysterious as it ever was. His early work, the songs that skyrocketed him into the hearts of millions, was certainly urban in theme, and reflected the way love and loss works in the city.

Later work has gotten increasingly more romantic, and softer, and seems to almost reflect the wooded areas where he started spending time with his most loved ones. His last marriage was to Katie Lee in 2004, and it lasted for five years. He’s had ups and downs, and more than his share of heartache, but the success of his poetry in song has made the world a better place, and in Oyster Bay, it’s possible to visit the landscape that gave him some of the best dreams.
